Common Birth Injuries

A newborn baby can suffer serious birth injuries that can be devastating to the life of both the baby and the parents. Chief among these injuries are:

• Cerebral Palsy - This term covers a complex brain injury that causes maldevelopment of the child and usually results in a shortened lifespan. The causes of cerebral palsy are varied and only some of these causes are related to birth injury. • Brachial Plexus Palsy - The nerves of the baby's arm run from the neck, under the shoulder, through the armpit and into the arm.
