Symbyax® Injury Lawyers
Symbyax® is a prescription medication that combines fluoxetine, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), and olanzapine, an anti-psychotic medication. The drug is often prescribed to treat bipolar disorder, certain types of treatment-resistant depression, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s medication guide for Symbyax links it to possible birth defects in children who are exposed to the drugs while in the womb. If you were prescribed Symbyax before or after becoming pregnant and your child was born with birth defects, our Symbyax birth defect lawyers want to help you. Types of Symbyax® Birth Defects
Unborn babies who are exposed to Symbyax are at a high risk of developing certain heart-related birth defects, such as:
Atrial Septal Defect (ASD)
ASD is a congenital heart defect that results in a hole developing between the two chambers of the heart. This causes oxygen levels in the blood to drop, which can result in serious health problems for the infant, including cardiac arrhythmias and respiratory infections.
Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD)
VSD causes a large opening to develop between the ventricles in the heart, which can result in oxygen-rich blood being pumped back into the lungs. This causes the heart to be overworked and enlarge. Children with this condition may develop congestive heart failure and require open heart surgery.
At Ferrer, Poirot & Wansbrough, our drug injury lawyers know that heart defects can cause your child serious lifelong health problems, and the treatments can be expensive. You shouldn’t have to pay because you took a drug that was supposed to help you feel better. Call us and get the help you deserve.
