According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), there are between 35,000 and 40,000 table saw injuries in the United States every year. A recent announcement from the CPSC was released in response to data revealing consumers suffered on average, “11 fractures, 11 amputations, and eight avulsions every day from contact with the saw blade.”

  • Amputations and bone fracture injuries happen to about one in 10 table saw users.
Injuries to the head, neck, eyes, legs, upper arms, and chest also occur, even when the operator is wearing protective clothing.

Consumer Protection

Despite the fact that table saws have been on the market for many years and there have been hundreds of thousands of serious injuries reported, few safety measures have been enacted to protect consumers and their families.

The CPSC just unanimously voted to publish an advance notice of proposed rulemaking (ANPR) aimed at improving the safety of table saws, but those regulations have not yet gone into effect.
