Yamaha Motor Company's popular Rhino All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) may pose serious and life-threatening risks to both its drivers and passengers. Yamaha Rhino Recall Update

According to The Associated Press, Yamaha Corporation has recently recalled about 145,000 Yamaha Rhinos (Rhino 450, 660, and 700 models) from the market. This recall comes after the Yamaha Rhino 450, 660, and 700 were linked to 46 deaths and hundreds of defective product injuries. More than two-thirds of the incidents were rollovers.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission urges users to not use affected models until repaired by a dealer. They warn, "More than two-thirds of the cases involved rollovers and many involved unbelted occupants. Of the rollover-related deaths and hundreds of reported injuries, some of which were serious, many appear to involve turns at relatively low speeds and on level terrain."

The Rhino ATV is also known as a side-by-side, because its two seats are next to one another. Yamaha recently included an updated on-product warning label and announced that it would make design changes to the Rhino, which includes adding doors and additional passenger handholds to any 2004-2007 Rhino, free of charge at a certified dealership. Our firm applauds these measures, but unfortunately they do little for people who have already suffered life-changing defective product injuries in the Rhino.

Many slow speed turns on the Rhino result in the vehicle rolling over, and due to the vehicle not having any doors, body parts flail outside of the ATV as it rolls over, crushing them—even when the driver and passenger are wearing seat belts.
