Are prescription drugs safe, or could they cause more injuries than cures? This seems to be a recurring question for patients, medical professionals, and patient advocacy groups.

Now an advocacy group wants to stop drug trials for Avandia due to drug injuries that have been associated with the drug, according to the Injury Board National News Desk.

The FDA called for trials of the drug after it was indicated that patients taking the drug as opposed to other diabetes drugs could be at a higher risk for Avandia drug injuries such as heart attacks. Now a patient advocacy group, Public Citizen, wants the trial stopped because 16,000 patients involved in the trial would be at an increased risk for Avandia drug injuries such as heart attacks.

Public Citizen also says patients participating in the trial were underinformed about the risk for Avandia drug injuries.
