USA Today reported that Public Citizen, a consumer advocacy group, is calling for the ban of Ortho Evra birth control patch due to increased risks for drug injuries such as fatal blood clots.

Public Citizen claims that the patch exposes women to larger amounts of estrogen which can cause potential drug injuries. They also claim that the patch is less effective than the pill.

The FDA approved the device in 2001 but changed the label in 2005 to include a warning about the increased exposure to estrogen which can cause drug injuries such as fatal blood clots.

Ortho Evra could increase the risk for Texas drug injuries.
