A federal jury recently awarded $1.25 million to the family of an 84-year-old woman who died after taking Pradaxa after it found that Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals Inc. didn’t properly disclose the risks associated with the medication.

In addition, Pradaxa’s manufacturer never told patients or their doctors about the importance of having anti-coagulant levels in the blood checked, which led to some patients having excess levels of the drug in their bodies. Elevated levels can increase the risk of bleeding-related injuries and deaths.
Nearly 3,000 additional cases related to Pradaxa injuries and deaths are pending nationwide.
