Two veterans injured in the recent accident between a tractor-trailer hauling a parade float and a train have filed a personal injury lawsuit against the companies that operated both the truck and the train. FOX News reports the suit claims negligence the part of both companies was the direct result of their injuries.
The accident happened on November 14 in Midland, Texas, during a holiday parade. As a truck hauling one of the floats began to approach a railroad crossing, an alarm was raised about an approaching train. The driver of the truck continued across the tracks, where the trailer carrying dozens of veterans as struck by the train. Four people died and dozens of others were injured as a result of the Texas Truck Accident.
A further investigation into the incident, conducted by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), found the oncoming train signals sounded roughly 20 seconds before the train crossed. The suits claim the trucker was negligent in attempting to cross the tracks as the alarm sounded and that the company who operates the train was negligent in more than 28 ways, including failing to slow the train down in an attempt to avoid the collision and provide a safe crossing.
