A swiftly moving fire swept across the fairgrounds of the Scarborough Renaissance Festival in Waxahachie, Oklahoma, killing one worker. An article released by NBC-DFW stated that firefighters were alerted to the blaze just after 10:30 PM.
By the time they arrived, the fire had spread through the 35-acre complex, engulfing a total of seven buildings in flames. When a worker at the facility was unaccounted for, firefighters focused their efforts near his residence. Unfortunately, when the fire was extinguished, firefighters found his body inside the building. Investigators believe the man was overcome by smoke and died inside the residence and he was declared dead at the scene.
A firefighter was also injured while battling the blaze, and was transported to Baylor Medical Center to be treated for injuries related to heat exposure.
Authorities are still working to determine the cause of the fire.
According to the American Burn Association, 450,000 Americans will suffer a burn injury in a fire that will require medical attention this year alone, not including the 3,500 citizens that will die in fires.
