Actos is a drug used to treat the symptoms of Type 2 diabetes. Although it was quite effective in that purpose, it has also been linked to serious health conditions such as bladder cancer and heart failure. Bladder cancer can take years to reveal itself, which means even if you stopped taking Actos years ago, your recent bladder cancer diagnosis may be the result of taking the medication.

In addition to bladder cancer, Actos has been linked to the following health concerns:

  • Dental problems
  • Heart failure
  • Liver disease
  • Shortness of breath
  • Stomach pain
  • Swelling or rapid weight gain

The initial FDA warning came back in 2011. Since then, the drug manufacturers, Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited and Eli Lilly & Company, have been ordered to pay $9 billion in punitive damages for releasing the drug with the knowledge there was a risk of cancer. The landmark verdict was the seventh largest of its kind in the United States.

If you or someone you love developed bladder cancer or suffered from heart failure after taking Actos, you may be entitled to significant compensation from the manufacturers. Call the drug injury lawyers at Ferrer Poirot Feller Daniel immediately. We’ll stand up for your rights and hold the drug manufacturers responsible.
