Hypoxia is a serious condition that is often the result of complications at birth and affects around 1 in every 1,000 children who are born. An article from Injury Lawyer News discussed the causes of the condition and the effects it can have on a patient’s life in detail, and also what those who have suffered hypoxia can do about the injury.

Hypoxia occurs when oxygen is unable to make its way to the brain and often results in brain damage or numerous other physical disabilities. The lack of oxygen can also result in a Birth Injury known as cerebral palsy, which is identified by an inability to control bodily movements.

Complications that can result in hypoxia include:

  • Umbilical Cord Issues
  • Uterus Ruptures
  • Excessive Force Used During Birthing Process
  • Delayed Vaginal Deliveries
  • Breech or Premature Birth

Doctors may be unable to identify whether a child suffered from hypoxia during birth and in some cases, development of symptoms could take several years. A child who suffered a birth injury could deal with the effects for the rest of their lives and may also face astronomical medical bills to receive the care they need.

The Dallas Personal Injury Lawyers with the law firm of Ferrer Poirot Feller Daniel explain that a family with a child who has been afflicted with a birth injury due to negligence may be able to seek compensation from a doctor or hospital to help offset some of these medical costs.
