According to a report by sunsentinel.com, Florida’s healthcare industry is making little to no progress in their battle against medical malpractice by doctors in the state. The article states that a study released in April by medical journal Health Affairs found that as many as one in three hospital admissions in the U.S. result in injuries requiring additional hospitalization or treatment.
Last year, in the state of Florida alone, 168 patients died while in a doctor’s care and an additional 386 were victims of medical malpractice in various forms, ranging from drug injuries to botched surgeries.
While statistics show that deaths from medical mistakes are declining, doctors and researchers say that the number of cases involving serious patient harm is staying about the same.
