Viberzi Pancreatitis Lawsuits

Eluxadoline, sold under the brand name Viberzi, is a prescription medication used to treat patients suffering from diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D). Approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2015, the drug has recently been linked with an increased risk of developing serious—or even deadly—pancreatitis among patients who have had their gallbladder removed.

If you or someone you love took any amount of Viberzi without a gallbladder and suffered pancreatitis or symptoms of pancreatitis during or after May 2015, contact Ferrer Poirot Feller Daniel now. Viberzi and IBS-D Patients Without Gallbladders

From May 2015 to February 2017, the FDA received 120 reports of serious pancreatitis or death. The deaths associated with pancreatitis after taking Viberzi involved patients without gallbladders.

Viberzi Pancreatitis Risk

Patients have reported pancreatitis or pancreatitis symptoms after taking just one 75mg or 100mg dose of Viberzi. As a result of this potential complication, the FDA has recommended that Viberzi should not be used among patients who have:

  • no gallbladder,
  • a medical history involving a gallbladder blockage or sphincter of Oddi problem (SOD),
  • suffered from pancreatitis or pancreatic issues in the past,
  • a history of serious liver problems,
  • a history of chronic or severe constipation,
  • a history of alcohol abuse or drinks more than 3 alcoholic beverages a day,
  • or may have had an intestinal obstruction in the past.

Patients who suffer from IBS-D and fit any of the above risk factors may consider treating with over-the-counter medications or alternative prescription drugs.

Symptoms of Pancreatitis

Patients who take Viberzi should watch for symptoms of pancreatitis, such as:

  • Upper abdominal pain
  • Abdominal pain that radiates to the back
  • Abdominal pain that feels worse after eating
  • Fever
  • Rapid pulse
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Abdominal tenderness

If you or a family member experience any of these symptoms, contact a physician immediately to protect your health. Then call or contact us online to help protect your potential rights to compensation.
